This page is devoted to my research interests.
I am interested in French and Francophone Travel Writing, and in particular travel in modern and post-modern urban space.
My research focuses on the semiotic and ideological interaction of city and traveller, in the hegemonic and subjective senses. I am particularly concerned with the tensions within the genre – the ethnographic and autobiographical impulses – and the ethical implications of colonialism and postcolonialism for French and Francophone travellers.
